Thank you so much for being a valued user of Chatwork.
Starting in August 2026, a phone-based identity verification step is being added to the process for new registrations. This update is in order to provide users with enhanced security.
Scheduled Implementation
August 2026 (planned)
Background
Since January 2026, Chatwork has identified a number of cases involving the creation of accounts posing as real companies or individuals in order to obtain money or information by impersonating business partners or colleagues.
While many customers choose Chatwork for its ease of adoption and high degree of convenience, we also believe it is essential to build a secure system that prevents unauthorized use by malicious third parties.
By strengthening identity verification at the initial registration stage, we aim to create an environment enabling the safe and secure use of the Chatwork network as a whole.
Change Details
During the initial registration process, an authentication phone number will appear on the screen, and authentication is completed by simply calling the number from the user's phone.
The system verifies the caller ID when the phone rings and hangs up without answering, so no call charges are incurred. The process is expected to take a few seconds.
Impact on Users
- Customers who are already using Chatwork will not need to undergo this additional phone number authentication step.
- This will not affect the process for adding users. It will apply only when registering a new administrator account and will require a Japanese phone line that is capable of making calls and configured to show caller ID.
- The verification cannot be performed using an IP phone or with caller ID withheld.
A Request to Our Users
The objective of phone number authentication is to prevent the creation of fraudulent accounts during initial registration.
To prevent damage from fraud, phishing, and other threats, it is vital that you continue to exercise caution in daily use. We ask that you review and give us your cooperation with regard to the following points.
- Please exercise caution with messages, URLs, and attachments from unknown sources. If a communication seems suspicious, we recommend that you do not open anything but instead verify the communication's authenticity with the sender through an alternative channel.
- We have identified instances of users being directed to fake websites (phishing websites) that mimic the Chatwork login screen. When logging in, please use a bookmark or our official app to ensure that you are at the correct URL before proceeding. For more details, please refer to "Please be Careful of Phishing Websites."
- To further enhance security, avoid reusing passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
We look forward to your continued use of Chatwork.
